General information

ITMO University and The Virtual Institute for Artificial Electromagnetic Materials and Metamaterials invite you to take part in XXXI EUPROMETA Summer School on Nanophotonics and Metamaterials for PhD and Master students. The internationally recognized scientists will give a series of talks in the field of their expertise. The school is organized by the Nanophotonics and Metamaterials Laboratory of the ITMO University and supported by Russian Science Foundation and Academic University.
School will take place in the Technopark of the ITMO University in marvelous Eliseev House (Birzhevaja Linija, 14) in the center of St. Petersburg city.

Self study

Please download the file with the description of the problem using the links below and start solving them in a groups according to the following table. You will be provided a self-study time on Thursday 14:30-16:00. During the self-study time you will be able to use a class room with computers with needed software. The classrom num is 440 (last floor of the building then turn to the right). Please use following data to access class computers: login - schoolnm and password – schoolnm.

Registration

In order to register for the School participants should perform payment at the Metamorphose-VI website. Particpants also should send CV and short covering letter explaining motivation to attend the School to school@metalab.ifmo.ru with the subject "Summer School".

All registered participant will be suggested to attend Poster Session competion. The best poster will be awarded.

Please read carefuly information on Russian visas and fill in the form at visa section to obtain an official invitation from the Organizing Committee. Check deadline section.

The fees include tuition, lecture materials, full board accommodation, BBQ-party, airport transfers and an excursion.

Students affilated with CIS-countries universities will be partly supported by Russian Science Foundation. The cost for this participants may be reduced to 5.000 RUR. Please contact School Organizeres for details.

Credits

All participants of the School will be offered to solve a number of problems given by lectureres. Students who will successfully solve all tasks and present their results will be awarded 3 credits.



Venue

The School will be held in the historical palace Eliseev House (Birzhevaja Linija, 14) situated in the center of St. Petersburg in the walking distance to the Winter Palace and Hermitage museum. Visit 3D-tour over School venue.

The School participants will stay at two main locations. Both routes will take around half an hour with public transport.

Possible routes to the Birjevaya line, 14 are:

From Kazanskaya ulitsa, 43
1)You can take a 30 minute walk through the very city center and enjoy the views of St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty, Palace Square and Hermitage.
2)Take a bus number 10 from the corner of Voznesensky Prospect(Avenue) and Kazanskaya Ulitsa (Street) and get off the bus at the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. Then cross the road to the Birzhevoy Proyezd and lead to the Birzhevaya Liniya, 14.

From Vyazemskiy pereulok, 5/7
1)You can take a 50 minute walk through the famous Petrograd Island.
2)Take a bus number 1 from Kamennoostrovskiy Prospect (Avenue) between Chapygin and Graftio Streets get off near Birzhevoy Most (Bridge). Go over the of the bridge by the right side to Vasilyevsky Island. Turn right off the bridge to Tiflisskaya Ulitsa or walk along the Makarov Embankment to the Birzhevaya Liniya,14.

The registration will be organized at the ground floor - to the right side downstarits after the entrance to the buidling. After the registration you can proceed to the first floor to the lecture hall.

The School venue is provided by the Technopark of ITMO University.

Excursion

A unique excursion will be offered to the participants to the School:

Travel to Kronshtadt with a tour to the dam (the St. Petersburg complex of protection structures), and a trip to the sea forts.

During the trip you will visit Kronstadt - town, located on Kotlin Island, 30 kilometers (19 mi) west of St. Petersburg proper near the head of the Gulf of Finland. You will see unique hydraulic and defense structures, beautiful buildings and ensembles. We will visit Kronstadt Naval Cathedral - Russian Orthodox cathedral built in 1903–1913 as the main church of the Russian Navy and dedicated to all fallen seamen. We will make a sea walk along Krondshtat raid and admire the famous forts. We will make a sea voyage on the legendary ferry "Reeperbahn", which will go from the fort "Grand Duke Constantine" - the ship where young Beatles, Queen, Rolling Stones performed.

Participants should meet at Chernaya Rechka metro station upstairs not later than 9 a.m. on Saturday, 25 of June.

  • 09:00 - Leaving by bus Chernaya Rechka metro
  • 10:00-12:45 - Entering Kronshtadt town, excuriosn over the town
  • 13:00-14:00 - See trip around Kronshtadt
  • 14:00-15:00 - Lunch at Fort "Grand Duke Constantine"
  • 15:00-17:45 - Tour over the defense structures complex
  • 18:00 - Leaving Kronshtadt
  • 19:00 - Arriving to Chernaya Rechka metro
